I was born in Bristol, England in 1967 .
I have always been interested in art and have enjoyed drawing in particular. However, I never pursued art as a career and in fact dropped it as a school subject when I was 13!. From then on it was just a hobby and i would find myself doing work for friends , family etc for free (of course!)
Anyway , suddenly I was 38 and stuck in a job I neither enjoyed or applied for and wondering what went wrong. I had never found a suitable career and couldn't work out why .Turns out it had been staring me in the face all the time!
At the start of Jan 06 I decided to learn to paint, so I watched a few Bob Ross videos and I was away. The first 20 or so attempts went in the bin but then I started to get the hang of it. I still have a full time job and balance my art between work and looking after my 11 year old son.
I was talking to a friend at my works christmas party who said that a good artist can make a picture just by using a single pencil. this inspired me to take up drawing again and all the drawings you see on my website have only been done in the last few months.
My favourite work is portraits as i enjoy the challenge of getting the exact look of someone down on paper (or canvas). I draw much of my inspiration from my son who also enjoys suggesting which picture I should draw next (usually footballers).
That is a brief history of me and I hope I haven't bored you too much. Hopefully one day my hobby and my career will be the same thing. But in the meantime you can find me on the last saturday of every month at the art market in Bristol city centre.
Thanks for your time.
Andy
